June is the Best time to give your lawn some love to prepare for the cold winter months. It also ensures you have luschious green lawns for spring.

Many people think winter is the time of year that they can simply cut their lawns shorter to avoid having to mow as often over the winter period. We recommend you follow the one-third rule. For a thriving lawn, never cut away more than one-third of the grass blade in any one mowing. The big risk of mowing low is ‘scalping’ which browns your grass. Scalp your lawn repeatedly and you risk weakening it, allowing more weeds and diseases to take hold.

A mulching Mower can help by returning up to 15 percent more nutrients back into your soil.

To reduce compacvting of your soil you should aerate your lawn to loosen the soil and allow nutrients and moisture to reach the roots. Ideally this should be done 1-2 times a year. Aerating can be done with a garden fork, Lawn aerating shoes (aka Lawn Breathers) or you can hire an areator from your local hardware or hire company. (Why not ask some of your neighbours to see if they’d like to spend the weekend fixing up their lawns and you can all share the costs of the machine)

June is a GREAT time to apply a High quality fertiliser to your lawn; a winter fertiliser will contain a higher level of iron which helps maintain the lawns health over the colder months!

After initial treatment, a second fertilising should be done 8 weeks later and again in September using a standard fertiliser.

If your lawns are looking a little patchy, you can over-sow to fill in any gaps.

With lawns weakened during the winter months weeds like dandilions, daisies and clover can easily take over and become a problem. Good news is they can be easily fixed with some herbicide (ask us today about weed spraying)

For those who care to leave the Lawn maintenance to us we can help you maintain your lawns all year round. Ask us about lawn fertilisation today! 0424046123

While cutting your lawn short might seem convenient, it actually reduces nutrients in grass blades and exposes soil to sunlight giving weeds easier access to your lawn. Make your lawn happy by cutting at the height recommended for your grass.

Raise the mower blade to be 2 inches or higher. The higher the grass, the larger the photosynthetic ability. Since the green leafy part of the grass is what feeds the roots of the plant, buzzing the grass down doesn’t allow much left for food. This directly hinders the grass health.

Also, the intensity of the sun can then shine directly onto the soils. Without the buffer of slightly longer grass the sun and water can be too harsh.
